A volunteer having a great time with local youths |
Together Against Poverty Organisation, welcomes volunteers from all over the world to our organization so as to enhance global exchange of skills, resources and ideas between them and members of Kuresoi South Sub-County rural community.
Some of our
placements are at the outskirts of Mau Forest complex which is one of the biggest
forests in Kenya that prides itself of being home of different kind of animal
and bird species. The forest is also conducive for camping and hiking
expeditions for those who want to adventure inside it.
Our organization
works with Kipsigis community, which is a sub-tribe of the larger Kalenjin
tribe. This sub-tribe comprises the greater percentage of people living in
Kuresoi South Sub-County. They are known to be warm, hospitable and ever full
of smile. Singing and dancing is their passion. This community is also known
world-wide for producing the famous long-distance runners. They keep livestock
and farm cash-crops (tea) and also potatoes for their livelihood. Within them,
lives an indigenous tribe called the Ogiek; a tribe well-known for their
conserved traditional way of life. They have been assimilated though by the
Kipsigis but they are yet to leave most of their initial way of life.
Generally,
volunteering with our Organization and this community provides one with an
on-site taste of African experience.
We offer volunteer
opportunities for students, professionals, seniors and anyone with the desire
to serve in the rural community in Kenya. Those who are interested in
participating in our volunteer Program are asked to complete an Application
Form, and upon acceptance, are given the opportunity to work with us
and the entire community.
We work closely with each
volunteer to ensure a comprehensive preparation that includes both an
understanding of the community with whom they will be working with and all
considerations necessary for traveling to Kenya.
We are driven by a broad goal to eradicate poverty in
Kuresoi South Sub-County by mobilizing and tapping every available effort and
resource within and outside Kuresoi South Sub-county to eradicate the extreme
poverty among the pro-poor living in the community. Our mission impacts
positively on Environment and natural resources, Women, Youths, general health
of the entire members of the community and on the education of our young and
OVCs living in the county. We place volunteers in programs that provide safe
and meaningful experiences to them.
